Donald Trump Nobel Prize : Amid the ongoing serious political crisis in Venezuela, the meeting between opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado and US President Donald Trump has increased the political heat. After the meeting, Machado claimed that he had gifted his Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump. This gift diplomacy has given rise to new political speculation from Washington to Caracas.

The much-publicized meeting took place over lunch at the White House on Thursday, following the arrest of former President Nicolás Maduro earlier this month in a US-led operation. When Machado left the White House after the debate, which lasted more than an hour, he was greeted warmly by his supporters. "We can trust President Trump," he told supporters.

Nobel Prize Gifts and Rules When Machado was asked if Trump had accepted the medal he presented, he declined to answer. However, the Nobel Peace Prize awarding body has already clarified that the prize cannot be transferred or shared as per the rules.

On the other hand, Maria Corina Machado left the White House carrying a gift bag with President Donald Trump's name written on it. It is not clear what was in the red bag.

US attitude toward Machado White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt called Machado a "remarkable and courageous voice" of the Venezuelan people, but reiterated that Trump's assessment of his leadership prospects had not changed. Trump has said before that he does not have enough local support to lead.

Despite being a Nobel laureate, Machado has received mixed reviews from US officials. On the one hand, Trump has publicly praised interim President Delsey Rodriguez for cooperation on oil and other issues, while some US lawmakers have expressed confidence in Machado.

Repressive regime remains: Machado Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, who met with Machado, said Machado told lawmakers that the repressive regime in Venezuela has continued since the Maduro era. He called Interim President Delsey Rodriguez an "accomplished leader" who is getting stronger with the support of President Donald Trump.

Notably, Machado had to leave Venezuela for security reasons and the pro-Maduro Supreme Court barred him from contesting the 2024 presidential election.
