BCCI Warns Mohsin Naqvi: Return Asia Cup 2025 Trophy or Face ICC Complaint

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia On Mohsin Naqvi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has made a big allegation that Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy and medals with him after the Indian team refused to accept the trophy and medals in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Devajit Saikia said, 'BCCI will file a formal complaint regarding this issue in the ICC meeting to be held next month.'

But that does not mean that he should walk away with the trophy and medals. This is very unfortunate and against the spirit of the game. We hope that the trophy and medals will be returned to India soon. We will protest this at the ICC conference in November.'

Why did the Indian team not accept the trophy from Mohsin?

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia also explained why the Indian team did not accept the trophy from PCB President Mohsin Naqvi. He said, 'The Indian team can never accept the trophy from a person who is waging war against India. As far as the trophy and trophy distribution is concerned, India cannot accept the trophy from such a person, but this does not allow the gentleman to take the trophy and medal to the hotel.

Giving the example of the year 2022, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia said, 'If Naqvi had wanted, he could have gifted the trophy to someone else.' He recalled that when Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup in 2022, the then ACC President Jay Shah did not gift the trophy.'

The BCCI always follows the government's policy.

Regarding the policies of the Indian government, Devjit Saikia said, 'We have been following the government's policy for the last 12-15 years. The government says that there will be no bilateral series with Pakistan or any enemy country. But we must play in multinational tournaments or else the international federations will ban us.'

It is worth mentioning that the Indian team defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final match of the Asia Cup 2025. After the victory, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the trophy from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, but Mohsin Naqvi remained adamant on the stage and as a result, the Indian team returned to the hotel without the trophy, while Mohsin Naqvi took the trophy and medal with him.
